A small decent mini projector
The Airxel Mini-Beam projector is a new device by Innoio. After reading a post by Creative Technology Magazine, we decided to get our hands on the device and see what this small projector can do.
At first look, there are definitely some fantastic features you will find. With a maximum output of 220 ANSI lumens, it is perfect for a dark room and can be directly projected onto a white wall or surface. It’s small sleek design is what sets it apart from other mini projectors you will find. One downside is the fact that the audio is projected through a small decent sounding speaker and cannot be exported to a home theater system. This is not so great if you plan to redirect the audio to an external speaker instead. In fact, this was one of the biggest issues we found with the device.
Brightness and Picture Quality
The projector is relatively bright for its size and is perfect for a small dark room. Keep in mind that 220 ANSI lumens isn’t extremely bright especially considering the average normal sized projector carries an average brightness of 1000 to 3000 ANSI lumens. Maybe in the future, a more bright projector within the same price and size will be an option with Innoio however for now, it still does offer a decent brightness that works fine when watching movies. From a distance of around 3 meters, you can project an image size of around 70 – 80 inches.
You do however begin to notice a more fuzzy picture (even after focusing) making the projector useless when planning on projecting a computer screen at that distance. When playing a movie, it does not seem to be much of a problem and is barely noticeable. Obviously, when decreasing the size of the screen, there is a steady increase in picture quality.
Fixing Audio – How to play audio on an external device
We wanted to find a way to redirect the audio from the projector to an external audio device instead (in our example, we decided to try and connect our home theater receiver to it), we found a relatively inexpensive way to do this using a separate audio extractor. You can find one of these on Amazon for around $40.00 CAD which is definitely worth it and allows you to extract your audio from the HDMI cable to an external source.

After purchasing this device, we were able to achieve the audio we were looking for. The speaker on board the projector is not much more than decent so an external audio option is going to be beneficial to achieve a good quality sound when using this device. Now that being said. Innoio made the Airxel Mini-Beam projector more of a portable projection option. With 2 hours of battery life, this gives you just that. Now, 2 hours is also quite a small number that we hope to be increased when a newer model becomes available. Until then, this speaker is “alright” with what it offers and that is just that.
Although the Airxel is a relatively good projector. One important feature is still missing. There is currently no remote. Although this may seem to be a small issue right now, if you ever decide to mount the projector on a ceiling, it becomes quite a hassle to continuously have to reach up to the projector to turn it on and off. This is one thing we feel needs to be addressed when a newer model becomes available. The projector should have some sort of wireless remote to control and power on/off the device. Especially considering the projector has everything necessary to be mounted onto a wall or ceiling. Until then, there isn’t really any work around for powering on or off the device without directly reaching for the power button.
Packaging – Innoio Projector
Normally, we don’t write about the packaging of the product however we feel that for this projector, we had something that needed to be said. The packaging of the projector was simply fantastic. Something you don’t see very often with many products is the time taken to design the packaging. When looking at the Innoio projector (in the box), I was overly surprised with how feel everything was put together. Much like Apple and the great way everything is packaged together, Innoio really did well when displaying the Airxel Mini-Beam projector.
